The NCIT project, initiated by the North Carolina State Ports Authority (NCSPA), would construct a large container terminal (megaport) on an undeveloped site on the Cape Fear River near Southport that they had purchased from Pfizer in 2006. ==Scope of Activity== NoPort Southport NC, Inc., has held public meetings in the Southport area to disseminate information regarding containership ports and potential impacts of such a containership port in the area; has developed a web site for the same purpose; and has been funded by nonprofit foundations to conduct analyses of economic and environmental issues by the University of North Carolina Wilmington faculty and volunteer consultants.
